Enea Bastianini's KTM Struggles: French MotoGP 2023 Review (2026)

In the world of MotoGP, every rider and team is constantly pushing the limits of their machinery to gain an edge over the competition. The recent French Grand Prix at Le Mans offered a glimpse into the challenges faced by Tech3 MotoGP rider Enea Bastianini and his KTM package.

Bastianini's journey at Le Mans was a tale of resilience and reflection. Despite a promising start, a crash during qualifying on Saturday hampered his chances of a higher grid position. However, his determination shone through as he recovered to finish seventh in the main race, albeit with a notable gap to his KTM teammate, Pedro Acosta, who finished fifth.

The Limits of the KTM Package

Bastianini's post-race analysis revealed a crucial insight into the KTM's performance. He highlighted the bike's limitations, particularly when using soft rear tires. The Italian rider struggled with excessive movement, making it challenging to push the bike to its limits. This issue became evident as he couldn't maintain his usual pace towards the end of the race.

"I think at the moment we have some limits. We have to understand what they are," Bastianini said, reflecting on his performance. This honest assessment showcases the rider's maturity and his commitment to continuous improvement.

Teammate's Perspective

Jonas Folger, Bastianini's teammate, also had a challenging race. Stepping in for the injured Maverick Vinales, Folger, a KTM test rider, focused on completing the race and learning as much as possible. Despite finishing over 73 seconds behind the leader, Folger's primary goal was to gain valuable experience and understanding of the bike.

"The weekend was better than expected," Folger noted. "I came in to understand the bike, and while the crash yesterday affected my confidence, today was all about finishing the race and gaining those crucial laps."
